LEXINGTON MEDICAL CENTER CLINICAL EXPANSION AND RENOVATION

WEST COLUMBIA, SC

Size of project:  550,000 SF

Construction cost:  $120 million

Project description:

The expansion portion of the project included a surgery suite of 21 new operating rooms, Imaging Floor, Food Services, Central Sterile, morgue, 5-story patient tower, and loading docks.  It also included a new Central Energy Plant, Ice Storage Building, and Utility Tunnel. A very complex site utility phasing plan allowed all utilities to remain in service while the energy plant expansion and utility tunnel were constructed under the footprint of the addition.  The renovation portion of the project included phased renovations to surgeon’s lounge and kitchen, receiving, critical care, and laboratory.

Both the new Atrium and new Patient Tower were provided with smoke control systems, including Atrium exhaust, stair pressurization, floor pressurization, elevator shaft pressurization, firefighter’s smoke control panel, high-rise fire alarm system, and Fire Command Center.
